Meeting at the Spice Bazaar
Your guide will meet you near the historic Spice Bazaar to begin the experience. Visit to Rüstem Pasha Mosque
From the Spice Bazaar, walk through the surrounding streets to Rüstem Pasha Mosque. This elegant 16th-century mosque, designed by the famous Ottoman architect Sinan, is known for its extraordinary Iznik tile decoration. Your guide will explain the artistic symbolism, craftsmanship, and architectural features that make this mosque one of Istanbul’s hidden gems.
Visit to Yeni Mosque (New Mosque)
Continue to the nearby Yeni Mosque, located at the entrance of the Spice Bazaar. Here you will learn about the imperial women who sponsored the mosque’s construction and the important role of mosque complexes in Ottoman urban life. The visit also provides an opportunity to discuss the development of the surrounding Eminönü district as a major commercial center.
Tram Ride to Sultanahmet
Next, take the tram toward Sultanahmet, the historic heart of Istanbul. During the ride, your guide will share stories about the transformation of the city across centuries, explaining how Byzantine Constantinople evolved into the capital of the Ottoman Empire and eventually modern Istanbul.
Visit to the Blue Mosque
Upon arrival in Sultanahmet, visit the famous Blue Mosque. During the visit, you will learn about the mosque’s architectural harmony, its famous Iznik tile interior, and the traditions of Islamic prayer and mosque etiquette.
Traditional Tile Workshop (45 Minutes)
Following the mosque visit, participate in a 45-minute tile workshop where you will create your own ceramic artwork inspired by traditional Ottoman designs. Using a pre-drawn tile pattern, you will paint the design with two colors under the guidance of an instructor. Your tile will be varnished and prepared for you to take home as a unique souvenir. During the workshop you may also experience shaping clay on a traditional pottery wheel.
Tour Conclusion
At the end of the workshop, your guide will conclude the tour and provide helpful recommendations for the rest of your day in Istanbul, including nearby historical sites, local restaurants, and shopping areas.
